How to Enroll
Charlotte County follows American Red Cross guidelines when facilitating the Lifeguard Training Course.
- Step 1: Take a Swim Test
All lifeguard participants must complete the required swimming skills prerequisite prior to signing up for the course.
The prerequisite skills assessments include a swim-tread-swim sequence, rotate in-conduct surveillance – rotate out, Timed Single-rescuer CPR Scenario, Multiple Rescuer Response Scenario.
- Where are Swim Tests held?
Swim tests are conducted at each of the Charlotte County Aquatics Facilities. Stop by anytime during business hours:
- Ann & Chuck Dever Regional Park
- Centennial Park Pool
- South County Regional Park
Once you arrive, please check in with the lifeguard and let them know you're ready to begin the swim test.
- Step 2: Enroll with an Aquatics Coordinator
After successfully completing the swim test, see an Aquatics Coordinator to enroll in the American Red Cross class.
There is a $200.00 fee that will cover the costs of the class.
- Lifegard Training Courses Are Held Monthly
With a minimum of 5 participants.

- Step 3: Show up!
This 3-day class is fast-paced and hands-on, covering critical skills that could one day save a life
- Be ready to participate.

- Step 4: Apply
Once you've received your certificate, start your aquatics career! Apply to the Lifeguard position today!
